Xbox One S Accessories – That You Need NowMarch 27, 2019
By now you should all know that I’m an Xbox guy. I have written a handful of articles centered around Xbox and improving your experience with certain games. In today’s article, I will be going through a few Xbox One S accessories to improve your overall gaming experience. Now I will start this off by saying that most accessories won’t improve your Xbox performance. The accessories that I will be mentioning aim to add to the experience and not take anything away.
I will be mentioning Upgraded Controllers, Media Remotes, External Hard Drives, Rechargeable Battery Packs, Vertical Stands, and Headphones.
1. Upgraded Controller – Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller
The Xbox controller is the industry standard when it comes to being comfortable in-hand. Its drawbacks would be its squishy buttons and triggers. Microsoft recognized those drawbacks and fixed them. The Elite Wireless Controller improves on almost every aspect of an already great controller. Tactile buttons, machined hair triggers, and an additional 4 paddles for pro players. The only 2 complaints I have for this controller are the lack of rechargeable batteries out the box, and its premium price. When I bought mine there was only a black version, recently Microsoft has released a clean white version
I did a review on which Xbox controller is best for Fortnite a while back, in this article I mention a few other pro controllers. Check it out for a few great alternatives.
2. Media Remote – Xbox One Media Remote
The Xbox One S is a great media hub and can be used for more than just gaming. My wife uses my Xbox to watch Netflix and it took her forever to learn how to use the controller to navigate. A quick solution to this problem is the Xbox One Media Remote.
This remote is always on and always connected, it is a more familiar form factor for non-gamers. It also has backlit keys that light up automatically. You will be in control of Blu-ray movies, streaming video, apps, TV power, and volume. If you want to add to your media hub then this remote is a great investment that won’t break the bank.
3. External Hard Drive – Seagate Game Drive
If you are a big gamer you will notice that your hard drive fills up pretty quickly after a few game installs. You will get to a point where you need to delete some games before you can install any new ones. I would recommend an external hard drive to take away that stress, as well as improve portability of your game data.
You can use almost any external hard drive, but the Seagate Game Drive is one of the few “Designed for Xbox” products. It comes in 2TB and 4TB configurations, I would recommend the 4TB to fully future proof your storage. It connects via USB 3.0 and can also work on Xbox 360. It is plug and play, so as soon as you connect it up and format it, it will be ready to go.
On Amazon, they are running a special game pass deal. This includes Two-month Xbox Game Pass membership with the special edition 4TB Game Drive.
4. Rechargeable Battery Packs – AmazonBasics Dual Charging Station
One of the biggest complaints I have with the Xbox Controllers is the lack of rechargeable batteries as standard. It annoys me that in 2019 you can buy an Xbox and you are expected to change the AA batteries in them every other day. When I purchased my Xbox One S I purchased the rechargeable packs and a dock at the same time.
Fairly inexpensive, the AmazonBasics Dual Charging Station is a no brainer. You can charge 2 controllers simultaneously and it only takes 2.5 hours to full charge a controller. It comes with 2 battery packs and once you have installed the battery packs in your stock or elite controller, you press the control down on the dock and it locks in place. There is a LED indicator to let you know if the controller is charged or still charging. Easy as pie.
It is a simple cheap purchase that is a quality of life must have for your Xbox One S. Microsoft, take notes.
5. Vertical Stand – eXtremeRate Vertical Stand
You can prop your Xbox One S up on its side as is, it’s just not that safe and stable. Standing your Xbox up vertically helps reduce its footprint and increase its overall aesthetics. If you want to do this safely, you will need a vertical stand.
The eXtremeRate Vertical Stand comes in black or white and secures your Xbox One S in a stable position. The stand has vents built into it to help with air circulation. There really is anything else to it, its a basic bit of kit that improves the aesthetic of you Xbox One S. Much like the Rechargeable battery packs, the eXtremeRate Vertical Stand is a cheap purchase that improves your experience for the lifetime of your console.
6. Decent Headphones
I won’t go into this too much here. A decent set of headphones will improve your gaming experience tenfold, and your housemates will thank you during your late night gaming sessions. I have written a few articles on the best Headphones for the Xbox One S, check out my review on the Plantronics RIG 800LX any my article on the Best Gaming Headset for Xbox One.
If you want to improve your Xbox One S experience get your hands on a couple or all of the Xbox One S Accessories I mentioned above.
Can you live without them? Yes. Should you have to? No
Let me be clear, As a reminder, none of the above will improve the overall performance of your console in any way.
