I think that Electric Scooters are cool, and I’m probably not the only one. I see them as a safer alternative to Electric Skateboards. Personally, you could never get me on a Skateboard as a kid and you damn sure won’t get me on one as an adult. “So What is the Best Electric Scooter for Adults?” you ask, that’s what you are here to find out today. My aim is to have you fully educated on various Electric Scooters and enable you to make a smart purchase.

There are a lot of Electric Scooters on the market in 2019. If you are seriously looking at getting a decent scooter you will be looking anywhere between $300 to $2000 USD. To make it easier I will categorize them in different price points below.

$100 to $500 USD

Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter

  • Max Speed : 15.5 mph (24.9 kph)
  • Max Range : 18.6 miles (29.9 km)
  • Charge Time : 7 Hours
  • Weight : 29.9 lbs (13 kg)
  • Weight Limit : 55.1 – 220 lbs (24 – 99 kg)
  • Motor : 250W Brushless DC

The Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter definitely ticks the box when it comes to looks. You can’t go wrong with the matte Grey and red color scheme, this thing looks awesome and it has the features to back it up. It has the ability to travel at 15.5 mph, and an equally impressive range of 18.6 miles. At 29.9 lbs you should be able to carry this scooter with one hand comfortably. The frame is made from lightweight Aerospace-grade Aluminum, which has great thermal conductivity and wear/corrosion resistance.

You will ride on 8.5 inch front and rear tires that promise excellent shock absorption. Safety features are what set apart excellent products from the mediocre one. An important Safety Feature is Stopping, you will be stopped by a rear disc brake and a front regenerative brakes. Other safety features include rear flashing taillights and a front 1.1W ultra bright headlights. The front Headlights have a range of 6 meters to aid in night riding.

One really cool feature is the addition of a comprehensive app that pairs to the scooter via Bluetooth. It gives you real time ride statistics and firmware updates ensure the scooter is always up to date.

If the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooters is in your price range you it’s hard to go past. If you have a bit more to spend, read on.

$500 to $1000 USD

Segway Ninebot ES4

  • Max Speed : 19 mph (30 kph)
  • Max Range : 28 miles (45 km)
  • Charge Time : 7 Hours
  • Weight : 30.9 lbs (14 kg)
  • Weight Limit : 55 – 220 lbs (25 – 100 kg)
  • Motor : 300W, Max 800W

Im sure you all remember the Segway, if not just look it up the Segway Personal Transporter. Segway have been making electric driven consumer hardware since 1999, and it’s no surprise they are really good at it in 2019. The Segway Ninebot ES4 is an accumulation of 20 years experience in this industry, and it shows. The ES4 looks very stealthy in its Dark Grey color scheme with red highlights, very similar to the Xiaomi previously. Its Max speed is a crazy 19 mph and it has a Max range of 28 miles, more than enough for the average city commute.

This scooter is equipped with an Internal and External battery, the sheer amount of battery power on tap lends itself to the stats presented above. The ES4 rides around comfortably with front and rear shock absorbers as standard. It has 8″ front and 7.5″ solid non-pneumatic tires (airless tires) and Night Safety is taken care of with front, side and rear lighting, the color of the rear and side lights can also be customized to suit riding conditions.

A one touch folding system and 30.9lb weight is also nice for one handed transport and storage. There is also an App to enable you to lock the scooter as well as get real time stats and diagnostics.

The Segway Ninebot ES4 is a beast of an electric scooter, it out performs the previous price bracket and would be a great pick up if you have the budget.

$1000 to $2000 USD

Nanrobot D5+

  • Max Speed : 40 mph (64 kph)
  • Max Range : 50 miles (80 km)
  • Charge Time : 10-12 Hours
  • Weight : 70 lbs (31 kg)
  • Weight Limit : 330 lbs (149 kg)
  • Motor : 2x 1000W

If all these electric scooters were members of the Avengers, the Nanrobot D5+ would be the Hulk. This thing comes loaded with excess and I love it. It is easily the most robust scooter I have mentioned, but everything here serves a purpose. Color scheme is mainly all black with hints of chrome, and has a very utilitarian look. It is quite heavy, but don’t seen anyone carrying this beast around one handed or for very long.

The Nanrobot blows everything out of the water when it comes to Max Speed and Max Range. You can get to 40 mph and you have a range of up to 50 miles…. that is ridiculously fast and ridiculously far. This is achieved through the use of two 1000W electric motors, one in the back and one in the front, giving the D5+ all wheel drive as well. You also get 10 inch pneumatic tires and 6 shock absorbers. This thing is the Rolls Royce of electric scooters.

With all that speed and power you need a way to stop safely. The D5+ also has front and rear disc brakes with EBS. It has horn, lights, blinkers and a theft alarm you can set with a remote. This thing is stacked, only thing that is missing is a phone app, but that isn’t a deal breaker here. You can also order one with a seat, but most people that have reviewed the seat regret purchasing it.

All in all, the Nanrobot D5+ is a serious electric scooter. If you are a heavier individual or a thrill seeker, consider this amazing scooter.

What about Boosted Rev?

If you are on the market for an Electric Scooter there is no doubt in my mind that at some point you will come across Boosted , or have already come across Boosted. They started out making electric skateboards and have since transitioned to Scooters, and they make solid product. So why have I left them out of the list? The price range that the Boosted Rev would have been in is $1000 to $2000, in that category the D5+ mops the floor wit the Rev. Don’t get me wrong, Boosted have a great name and make great products, but this time the Nanrobot D5+ is way better. You won’t see as many YouTube videos about the D5+ as the Rev, but I promise you the D5+ is better.

Summary – What is the Best Electric Scooter for Adults?

Electric Scooters aren’t a one size fits all, when it comes to what is the Best Electric Scooter for Adults, it really depends on your specific needs and budget. What are you going to use the scooter for mainly? How far do you need it to go?. If you have deep pockets the Nanorobot D5+ is the clear cut winner. If you don’t need to go far but you like to go quick, the Segway Ninebot ES4 is a great compromise.
